"My wife and I live in Midland, Texas and I do wildlife painting. I am a true outdoor nut. To get out and tramp through a mesquite thicket or around a river or creek and see and hear nature in the raw, inspires me to try to duplicate it on a canvas. I have always liked to draw - I was hard on tablets in elementary school! I also appreciate and paint hunting dogs. I am not a hunter but to watch those rascals work is a thrill.

The tension, muscle and concentration of good dogs are inspirational. I have no formal training in art (a luxury I wish I did have). I did for a number of years take watercolor painting under Bud Biggs of Richardson, Texas. I truly love watercolor but work mostly in oil and acrylic.

I have competed in art shows and have received quite a few awards, namely first place in the watercolor division of Plano, Texas Annual Art Show, also first place at the Diamond M Foundation Museum show in Snyder, Texas and others in the West Texas and New Mexico area."

Herb's goal, when creating a picture is to show the bird or animal in its natural environment and reflect wilderness as nature intended. Many times he likes to show the interaction between different species in the same picture. He has taken his art from a hobby to a full time vocation. Through hard work and a natural inclination toward drawing, he has developed into a top hand at his chosen profession.
